ITU International Satellite Symposium 2017

From May 29 to 31, 2017, the "International Satellite Symposium" organized by the ITU and the Ministry of Communications of the Nation was developed. It had important ITU figures, communications regulatory bodies, public and private companies and academic institutions. We had the opportunity to listen and participate in various panels that dealt with regulatory, technical issues and the latest discussions that are being addressed globally.

The objectives were:

- Incorporate the global discussion into the Argentina Satellite Industry Development project.

- Integrate national satellite developments into the world.

- Ensure compliance with international procedures and standards.

- Promote the joint work of the public and private spheres.

- Raise awareness about the impact of the satellite industry on regional and national economies.

- Promote the exchange of ideas, developments and solutions in the satellite industry.

- Strengthen an integrated vision of the global satellite ecosystem.

Conclusions

The regional and international work that our country has been carrying out in the development of the satellite industry was highlighted.

It is promoted to continue working together to "connect the unconnected".

Integrate our country to global discussions about the satellite ecosystem.

The discussions enriched the search for new tools that allow us to reuse the spectrum so that we can offer a better quality and more accessible service.

The satellite market is moving slowly. Users demand better connectivity, so it is important to strengthen the interoperability of providers that allows to provide a better service.

The need to work together and alongside the mobile phone industry was highlighted.

We must work to make the service more efficient, more affordable to the end user.

Some operators raised the need to define a more specific regulatory framework for small satellites. The current regulation does not define what a small satellite is.

Undersecretary Hugo Miguel raised the need to promote a territorial integration project to operate within the scope of UNASUR which consists of the development of small geos satellites of distributed architecture that will allow developing solutions for IoT, cybersecurity, smart cities, correction of augmentation of GPS and smart mobile.
