ITU CBS 2016 - World Symposium on ICT Training

The Global Symposium on ICT Training "Seize training opportunities in the digital age" was held from September 6 to 8, 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya. We had the honor of being invited as speakers.

More than 500 participants from governments, companies, Academic Institutions, non-governmental organizations and the United Nations family met in Nairobi to formulate and improve training strategies for the information and communication technology sector (ICT), to 'improve' digital qualifications and enable countries to take full advantage of the strong and sustained growth of ICT-related jobs.

Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the specialized agency of the United Nations for ICT, and acting as the host of the Communications Agency of Kenya, the ITU World Symposium on ICT Training (CBS-2016) offers a opportunity for interested parties from all over the world to discuss trends and developments in the sector, as well as their implications for institutional and human training processes, and also for the development of strategies to accelerate progress on Development Objectives Sustainable (SDG) of the United Nations at a time of major transformations based on digital technology.

"We live in a knowledge economy, in which new opportunities arise every day. ICTs are now at the center of almost everything we do, and those who are endowed with digital qualifications and have the opportunity to learn and adapt will gain an important advantage comparative "said Houlin Zhao, ITU Secretary General. "This Symposium brings together key actors in ICT and education to discuss how emerging technologies are changing the human training environment. ITU is committed to effectively and quickly helping all its members so that they can develop human capacity in ICT and improve ICT qualifications. "

CBS-2016 panelists and speakers bring together high-level leaders such as ministers, general directors of regulatory bodies, heads of United Nations agencies, executive directors of private sector companies, representatives of universities and research institutions and other experts in ICT training subject.

"Emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) are increasingly becoming a reality," said Joseph Mucheru, Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Information, Communications and Technology of Kenya. He added "these require different combinations of knowledge and qualifications in all sectors of society. Governments, industry, universities and other high educational institutions have to invest in a range of ICT qualifications at different levels, not just to make possible greater participation in the economy, but also to ensure the generation of digital citizens for a digital society. "

"As society experiences the 'digitalization of all things', learning models and methods evolve and offer teachers and students new digital tools, such as virtual classrooms, personalized instruction, adaptive curriculum and mixed training "explained Fred O. Matiang'i, Secretary of the Cabinet and Minister of Education, Science and Technology of Kenya.

The CBS-2016 discussions will focus on the new qualification requirements in a changing world; innovative tools for education and learning; the new digital learning methodologies such as online teaching through social media and MOOCs (massive open online courses); and the fundamental role of the Academic Institutions for the development of qualifications in the digital era.
